Glass Garage Doors
Glass garage doors are the ultimate aesthetic choice for a contemporary style home. Their combination of curb appeal, natural light, and energy efficiency make them the perfect investment to upgrade the value of your home. Where most traditional or carriage style garage doors only offer window accents, modern full-view glass garage doors are completely framed in glass. Here at Sunwest Overhead Door, we specialize in installing glass garage doors in the Anaheim, CA area. That is why you can trust us to install and service your new full-view glass garage doors.
Although glass garage doors are a specialized product, they do not require unusual attention in terms of interior hardware or cleaning. We offer the same track options in terms of highlift, low headroom, and standard radius tracks to fit the height and arch of your garage ceiling. The parts maintenance of a glass garage door is also not any more complex than a wood or steel door, but we do recommend annual maintenance as with any garage door. In some ways, cleaning your glass garage door is easier than the paint retouching needs of other garage doors. Simply wipe it down with a soft cloth and a watered down, mild detergent monthly to clear dust or debris.
Glass garage doors are a stunning design choice beyond their initial appearance. The glass and frame of the door can also be customized to your specifications for a unique product. For the glass, you choose the thickness, size, and appearance to maintain your privacy. For the frame, we offer various thickness and color options to best fit the insulation and style needs of your home.
The standard glass thickness is ⅛” thick. We can also do ¼” if you would prefer a thicker, more stable glass. If you worry about glass breakage—if you have young, active children, perhaps—we also offer impact-rated glass. An insulated glass will come standard at 7/16”, ⅝”, or 1” thickness.
The size of the glass garage door can vary in the same way as a steel, wood, or aluminum garage door. The standard sizes are 8×7, 8×8, 9×7, 9×8, 10×7, 10×8, 16×7, 16×8, 18×7, 18×8, but we order customized door sizes. Since we work closely with our glass manufacturers, the specialized size of your residential garage door will not be a problem.
We work with the best glass manufacturers to provide the most options in terms of color and texture. The glass on your door can be tinted any color you choose from a variety of options. In addition to color, you have numerous cosmetic options including frosted, tinted, mirrored, self-cleaning, dry erase, and clear. All of these specializations ensure the solitude of your garage so you don’t have to sacrifice privacy for beauty.
The thickness of the frame will be determined by the glass type you choose and whether or not you want insulation in the frames. We usually suggest getting insulated, rather than hollow, frames because they increase the temperature control and energy efficiency of your garage. Standard manufacturers create frames from 1 ¾”, 2”, or 3” thick. When you choose your glass, we can guide you in selecting the best frame to provide the support and insulation it needs.
The color of your glass garage door frame is a customization that is entirely up to you. Whether you want to match the exterior of your home or choose a color to contrast it, we can offer you almost two hundred paint color options. In addition to painting, you can have your frame anodized or powder coated which makes it last longer, protecting the metal from environmental damage.
If you do not like the look of exterior framing on your door, we also offer frameless or infinity glass garage doors. These are built with the glass glued flush to the steel frame. However, with this variety of doors, windows will have to be cut from the steel in order to allow for the same degree of natural light.
In addition to residential glass garage doors, we install and service countertop glass doors and commercial glass garage doors. Countertop glass doors provide a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor entertaining spaces for your home. They can be installed between a kitchen and patio, basement and outdoor dining room, or any other location where you want to connect with your guests. For commercial spaces, the installation of glass garage doors connects indoor and outdoor dining spaces on warm days. They also provide all of the natural light and scenic views of large paned windows with the added perks of movability and insulation.
